12 Apostles Pork

Prime pork raised ethically with the freedom to be a pig

Animal Welfare

We believe all animals should have a good quality of life and have the freedom to do as they naturally would.

We selected breeds that were easy to handle and thrive in open spaces. Ethically raised, happy, loved & truly free range pigs.

Like us pigs synthesize though their skin and fat and need a varied diet. So, our pigs are free to roam pastures of mixed crops with ample sun exposure as well as trees for shade.

Located in beautiful South West Victoria, our rolling hills help produce prime meat, growth and healthy pigs.

Our pigs are all free from hormones, growth promotants and antibiotic free.

Feeding our pigs mixed crops, grain and home grown fruit and vegetables while roaming free is what gives our pork its flavour and the additional nutrients you simply wont get from generically farmed pork.

Our breeds

Berkshire

A slow growing heritage breed, a great forager and mother. Known as the “Wagyu” of pork due the marbling of the meat, it produces a rich buttery flavour that is succulent like no other.

Saddleback

A smaller heritage breed of gentle nature, that is slow growing and fatter than other breeds. Good tempered, a great forager and mother.

Berkshire x saddleback

Our personal favorite, the mix of these 2 breeds have produced easy to handle sows with the loveliest nature. Nice marbling and not to much fat. Great mothers with good milk production.

Large black

Another heritage breed that depends on outdoor living and is very slow growing. Excellent forager and very docile with their big floppy ears.

Large white

Developed in England they are a hardy commercial breed that takes half the time to grow out, large in size, low fat content and free from black hair.

While Heritage breeds do produce better flavour from their slow growing, marbling and fats, the majority of flavor in pork is brought to you from their lifestyle/stress, environment and feed.

Boning & Packaging

All our meat is processed at our local boutique abattoir, Castle Estate.

The short drive ensures minimal stress for the livestock.

All our pigs are familiarised with the trailer throughout their life so there is no stress loading them, they just jump straight in, in fact we often don't even get a chance to put the ramp on before they have jumped in.

With Castle Estate you can customise your cuts, packaging sizes and hanging times to your needs.

To maintain freshness all cut meats are in cryovac packaging.
